The Voiceover Lab Orientation

VO Lab programs and sessions are open to all SAG-AFTRA members and VO Lab eligible performers that meet the requirements, regardless of your location or the VO Lab program's city of origin. Once you have completed the required Voiceover Lab Application (online), you must complete the Voiceover Lab Orientation (VOLO) in order to begin using the Lab. This 2-hour VOLO covers Lab policies, aspects of sound, file formats, sample rates/bit depths, audio interfaces, microphones, voiceover recording and editing demonstration using Twisted Wave software.

Audacity 102: How to Produce a Voiceover Commercial

Participants will need to be proficient enough with Audacity to self-produce an audio commercial with voiceover, music and sound effects.  Learning to mix various pieces of audio and understand the fundamentals of audio production are the goals.  For the inspired, the curious and those with the D.I.Y. gene, this class provides the foundation for producing voiceover demos.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Intro to Narrative Video Editing with iMovie for Mac, PART 2

Class begins at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET

This three-hour class is for SAG-AFTRA members who have previously taken the Part 1 class (Intro to Narrative Video Editing with iMovie) and are interested in learning how to expand their projects (e.g. short film, web series) using iMovie. In this class we will pick up where we left off in Part 1 by editing a short dialogue scene. We will also introduce more advanced features within iMovie including the addition of animated effects. Footage for the scene will be provided.

Please Note: You must have taken Part 1 (Intro to Narrative Video Editing with iMovie) prior to taking this class.

This class is not an introduction on how to use a computer, so basic computer skills are required. No exceptions. 

Requirements:

  • An Apple Macintosh computer (desktop or laptop) with a current version of iMovie installed (latest is 10.2.5)
  • Desire and ability to learn to edit digital video footage using Apple iMovie.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Resume Building Workshop

NOTE: This is a 2.5 HOUR class that will take place ONLINE.

The purpose of this workshop is to instruct SAG-AFTRA members on building a professional resume using a free word processor, Google Docs. In this two-hour session, members will setup an account to use the free software, learn how the site works as well as the basic functions provided, and build their resume during the workshop. While some members may finish their resume in the workshop, most members will have about 50-80% of their resume completed. NOTE: This is not a class to update your existing resume. We will be building a new resume in this workshop.

This class is not an introduction on how to use a computer, so basic computer skills are needed.  No exceptions.

All members are expected to have a functioning website by the end of the workshop.

Members must have the following organized on their desktop for this class:

  • At least 1 DIGITAL headshot 
  • Relevant information for your resume on paper. This can be an older resume.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation VO Demo Basics

SAG-AFTRA Foundation: Reels

This class begins at 1 p.m. PST/4 p.m. EST. 

SYNOPSIS

This session will provide a greater understanding of the components and elements that go into an effective demo reel, as well as cover the role of the reel and how an actor can best use it as one of their marketing tools. This session will last for 2 - 3 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time. 

If you want your reel reviewed:

  • It must be no longer than three minutes.
  • Email your name and YouTube or Vimeo link (No CDs or files) to thebusiness@sagaftra.foundation by 7 p.m. the evening prior to the class. We cannot guarantee that all submitted reels will be reviewed.

Please bring pencil or pen along with something to take notes.

Small group sessions are facilitated discussions with the goal of digging deeper into some of the information and advice shared within the panels. These sessions provide a time to break down concepts into practical action items by which an actor can individually apply to their professional pursuits.
