SAG-AFTRA Foundation: Inside the VoiceOver Actors Home Studio - Advanced

This advanced small group workshop is intended for voice actors with existing and active home studio set-ups or home set-ups in progress.

Maybe you need help refining your space, are in need of troubleshooting particular issues or could use some fresh ideas to make your studio more comfortable and as efficient as possible. Led by EIF engineer and VO talent Tatiana Grey, this workshop encourages actors to show their recording space and their equipment. It will address common roadblocks, gear issues and home recording questions and concerns  in a collaborative environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Participants must have an operational home recording space or be in the process of setting one up. Participants will be asked to share their space via web camera with the group. Participants are required to attend in their home space.

SYNOPSIS

There are many areas an actor can pursue within the entertainment industry. By taking the time to narrow down what an actor really wants to focus on it can free them up to deepen their pursuit of job opportunities. In this session, we will examine the different ways an actor can focus their career goals and discuss how one can create a system by which to effectively target the industry professionals within that area.

These sessions provide a time to break down concepts into practical action items by which an actor can individually apply to their professional pursuits. This session will last for 1.5 - 2 hours. SAG-AFTRA Foundation: Making Your Animation Auditions Pop

Take a deeper dive into characters and voices for animation and make your auditions pop! In this workshop we will zero in on classic archetypes and learn how to turn those voices into new and specific characters in a few easy steps. Great attention will be paid to self-direction for auditions. If you are looking to flesh out your stable of character voices and improve your animation reads, this class is not to be missed.

BIO 

Robin Reed has been working as a VO artist in New York and Los Angeles since 2004. She has voiced dozens of national commercials, including spots for Campbell’s Soup, GE Appliances, Swanson, Wheat Thins, Discover Card, and more. Promo work includes Lifetime, HGTV, WE, and Oxygen. Animated roles include Xenon on Talking Tom and Friends, Monster on the Street, The Alien Guide to Earth, Word Girl, The Croods, and more. As a narrator, she’s voiced shows for Lifetime, Oxygen, and WE, recorded books for Audible and Hachette, and comedy news for The Onion, Yahoo, and Rooftop Comedy. She is also the voice of a novelty remote control that may or may not still be sold in a Spencer’s Gifts at a mall near you. Robin has directed VO and on-camera talent for Freeform, Sony, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Yahoo and coached private clients who have been signed to top agencies in New York and LA. Time is a finite resource. If you do not plan how to best use your time, days, weeks, months or years could go by without you feeling like your goals have been achieved. In this small group session we will examine where you can adjust past habits to best use your time in relation to your acting pursuits. You will come out of this session with some techniques to budget your time more effectively.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation: Sweeten Your Audio with Commonly Used Plug-ins- Intermediate Level

Mastering which is the final step to "sweetening" audio requires the use of plug-ins. This class will show you how to use EQ, Rx De-Essing, and Rx Mouth Declick. These three plug-ins are the most commonly used in mastering voice-over. Learning how to effectively apply these tools can save you hours of time and give your raw record a more polished professional sound.

*This class teaches Izotope plug-ins. You do not need to own the plug-ins to take the class, but you cannot use the plug-ins without purchasing.*

REQUIREMENTS

Participants should have some familiarity with audio recording. Participants are required to stay for the duration of the session (12:30 -  2 p.m. PT / 3:30 - 5 p.m. ET)

SYNOPSIS

An actor was recently overheard saying that he just followed a couple of hundred people and will check back in 24 hours and unfollow anyone that did not follow him back. Unfortunately, this is common. Twitter is a conversation tool and, with any good conversation, the best thing to do first is listen and then engage. This session will cover using Twitter and reference Instagram and general tools and guidelines for dialogue, listening and learning while using Social Media. If you have never used Twitter or Instagram we encourage you to look up some tutorials online before attending this session.

SYNOPSIS

This session will provide a greater understanding of the components and elements that go into an effective demo reel as well as covering the role of the reel and how an actor can best use it as one of their marketing tools. This session will last for 2 - 3 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time. 

If you want your reel reviewed:

  • It must be no longer than three minutes.
  • Email your name and YouTube or Vimeo link (No CDs or files) to thebusiness@sagaftra.foundation by 7pm the evening prior to the class. We cannot guarantee that all submitted reels will be reviewed.

We will go over common recording terms, how to use industry standard features like punch and roll and much more. The class will include a lecture, a demonstration and plenty of time for questions. Please note, no editing or mastering will be demonstrated in this class.
