SAG-AFTRA Foundation Voiceover Lab Orientation

VO Lab programs and sessions are open to all SAG-AFTRA (and AEA) members and VO Lab Eligible performers that meet the requirements, regardless of your location or the VO Lab program's city of origin. 

Once you have completed the required Voiceover Lab Application (online), you must complete the Voiceover Lab Orientation (VOLO) in order to begin using the Lab. This 2-hour VOLO covers Lab policies, aspects of sound, file formats, sample rates/bit depths, audio interfaces, microphones and voiceover recording.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Attendees must be present for the entire 2-hour program, which is from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. (Pacific) / 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. (Eastern) in order to receive VO Lab eligibility. 
  • Ability to log into the program with a camera equipped computer or other mobile/portable device with a camera. Program will take place using Zoom.  The camera is needed in order for participants to view presentation materials.
  • Completed VO Lab Application.
  • Valid/Current SAG-AFTRA or AEA membership card.
  • Note taking materials (laptop, pens, pencils, paper) recommended.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: "All Things Demo" with Anna Garduno of VoiceForward

Join Anna for a fun, informative, practical discussion of All Things Demo so you can keep "taking your voice forward !" 

Anna's focus will be on the different kinds of demos with an emphasis on Commercial and Animation Demos:

  • What Makes a Great Demo?
  • How do you know what types of reads to put on demos. 
  • What are the things NOT to put on a demo? 
  • Do all demos need to be 'professionally" done? 
  • How many do I need? 
  • Where do I get material for my demo? 

Anna will give you specific examples of where to find original material for your demos as well as how to create original characters for your animation demos. 

The class will include listening to great demos and pointing out what makes them work. 

There will be a Q&A after the presentation.

PLEASE NOTE: this a seminar and Q&A.  No reads will be taking place.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Anna Garduno is a Bicoastal Actor- Producer- Teacher and the founder of VOICEFORWARD. Anna teaches classes for VO Commercials, Animation, Promos, Narration, and Games in both LA and New York. She has been a guest teacher for NYU Voice Over program and is on the faculty of the Tom Toddoroff  Conservatory. Anna has been nominated best VO teacher on both coasts two years in a row by the readers of Backstage. She is the only nominee to be given this honor for both NY and LA. As an actor Anna has decades of experience as a VO artist. She can currently be heard voicing the character of PALMON on the DIGIMON animated series as well as Selby the bear on the animated series KIOKA. Anna was nominated best character voice actor for her role as Kiera in the playstion games Jak and Daxter 1 and 2 by the  Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, 

Anna also produces demos with her students working closely with each student to write and/or select and rehearse copy that is best suited to their unique strengths and range. Voice forward students have booked hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jobs on their own as well as through agents they work with based on their demos. Agencies Anna's students work with include VOX, SBV, INNOVATIVE, CESD, ACCESS TALENT, DPN, DDO, ACM, PARADIGM, ATLAS and more.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Your Home Studio: The Do's and Don'ts

Even after this pandemic passes, one thing is and has been certain: a home studio for voiceover is now a must.

Led by EIF VO Lab engineer and VO talent, Tatiana Grey, this workshop will cover everything you need and need to know about home set-ups including: the basic necessary equipment, maximizing your space, tips and tools to help sound conditions, working within budgets, helpful resources and the right software/hardware for different areas of VO.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Beginner Bundle: Introduction to Audiobook Workouts

This class is for those that are new to voiceover and interested in narrating and understanding some of the performance elements involved when recording audiobooks.  This class will also prepare you for participating in the VO Lab's Audiobook Workout Groups and our Home Submission: Audiobook Edition Workout Groups.  You will touch on narrating, editing, software workflows, audiobook demos,  types of payments, and pay rates.  

REQUIREMENTS

This class is for beginners that are new  to audiobook narration and audiobook workout groups.  If you have previously attended Beginner Bundle: Introduction to Audiobook Workouts, as a designated reader or auditor or have  experience narrating and self-recording audiobooks,, you are not eligible for this offering.  Instead, we encourage you to register for the standard VO Lab Audiobook Workout Group..

Attendees must prepare one (1) book excerpt that is between 1-minute ans 2-minutes long. The excerpt needs to be Fiction, as well (no Non-Fiction, Self-Help, Instruction Manuals, Erotica or Children's Books).   Readers will be selected randomly and the number of readers will be limited due to the number of attendees, and the amount of time allotted for the program.

Attendees must stay for the entire class, which is from 1:30 - 4 p.m. (PDT) / 4:30 - 7 p.m. (EDT)
