This class is designed for members interested in developing and writing their own screenplay. During the first half of the class, members will learn the fundamentals of screenwriting, including development of new ideas, dramatic structure, and character development, among other concepts. During the second half, members will learn screenplay formatting by using various software options, including Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter. 

This class requires basic computer skills. No exceptions. No materials are required.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Intro to Narrative Video Editing with iMovie for Mac

NOTE: This is a 3 HOUR class that meets over Zoom web conferencing. The class begins at 9:45 a.m. PT / 12:45 p.m. ET

To participate, you must confirm the following:

  1. You can participate using a desktop computer (Mac or PC). No smartphones or tablets. 
  2. You have a reliable Internet connection (Wifi at home).
  3. You can successfully run this Zoom/audio test - https://zoom.us/test

*Zoom is a web conferencing provider which the Foundation will be using for its remote programming. It may require you to install some software which should be seamless.

This three hour class is for SAG-AFTRA members interested in learning how to edit narrative projects (e.g. short film, web series) using iMovie. In this class you will learn all of the basics of how iMovie works by editing a short scene.

Please Note: This class is not an introduction on how to use a computer, so basic computer skills are required. No exceptions. 

Requirements:

  • An Apple Macintosh computer (desktop or laptop) with a current version of iMovie installed (latest version is 10.2.2)
  • Desire and ability to learn to edit digital video footage using Apple iMovie.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Voiceover Lab Orientation from New York

Mar 02, 2021 - 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM EST

VO Lab programs and sessions are open to all SAG-AFTRA (and AEA) members and VO Lab Eligible performers that meet the requirements, regardless of your location or the VO Lab program's city of origin. 

Once you have completed the required Voiceover Lab Application (online), you must complete the Voiceover Lab Orientation (VOLO) in order to begin using the Lab. The 2-hour VOLO covers Lab policies, aspects of sound, file formats, sample rates/bit depths, audio interfaces, microphones, voiceover recording and editing.

When: Noon PT / 1 p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET, Tuesday, March 2, 2021

REQUIREMENTS

Attendees must be present for the entire 2-hour program, which is from 3 - 5 p.m. (Eastern) in order to receive VO Lab eligibility.

  • Ability to log into program by computer equipped with a camera or by cell phone equipped with a camera.  Program will take place using Zoom (conferencing application) .  Camera is needed in order for participants to view presentation materials
  • Completed VO Lab Application.
  • Valid/Current SAG-AFTRA or AEA membership card
  • Note taking materials (laptop, pens, pencils, paper) recommended.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Your Home Studio: The Do's and Don'ts

Led by EIF VO Lab engineer and VO talent, Tatiana Grey, this workshop will cover everything you need and need to know about home set-ups including: the basic necessary equipment, maximizing your space, tips and tools to help sound conditions, working within budgets, helpful resources and the right software/hardware for different areas of VO.

Ever open up or think of purchasing Pro Tools and want to cry because you're overwhelmed? This class is for you! We will go over how to set up a session, what the buttons all mean, some simple shortcuts, and how to record/export files.  By the end of the class, you'll be high-fiving yourself!

PLEASE NOTE: This class will use the desktop version of Pro Tools and will be led by a Pro Tools Certified Voiceover Lab Audio Engineer.

REQUIREMENTS

This class is geared towards those who own, use or are considering Pro Tools as an additional or advanced DAW.  We encourage participants to have Pro Tools downloaded and active, in order to follow along with the instruction.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: REAPER - From Download to Installation to Configuration to Your First Record with James Romick

REAPER (Rapid Environment for Audio Production, Engineering, and Recording) is a digital audio workstation (DAW).  While REAPER can be used for all areas of VO, it has gained momentum in the recent years within the audiobook industry.

From our instructor James Romick, “IMHO, REAPER is the nearly perfect DAW for VO recording. I’ve been using it and configuring it for nearly 8 years now and discover new things about it all the time."

Starting at square one,  this intro-level class will take you from installing the program, configuration and doing a basic recording.

**While all levels are welcome, basic audio terminology, knowledge and experience with a DAW will be necessary to follow along.**

SYNOPSIS

Do you have a plan for your money? Do you tell your money what to do or are your surprised at the end of the month by how it is spent? By creating a solid plan, audience members will have the steps to create a budget, get out of debt, build an emergency fund and begin to save for retirement. Participants will leave knowing that they can begin their path of financial freedom.

Please bring pencil or pen along with something to take notes.

Small Group Sessions are facilitated discussions with the goal of digging deeper into some of the information and advice shared within the panels. These sessions provide a time to break down concepts into practical action items by which an actor can individually apply to their professional pursuits. This session will last for 1.5 - 2 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time.

Headshots are an actors' calling card, but is it a professional picture that matches with how the buyers see you? Does your picture accurately communicate the product that is being sold? In this session we will discuss what your headshot is communicating and if that matches with what is coming into the audition room.

Please email copies of the headshots (MAX 2) that are submitted the most to thebusiness@sagaftra.foundation, by 7 p.m. the evening prior to the class. The class may not get through all headshots. 

If you have taken The Branding Workshop, please bring a typed copy of your branding sentence. It is not required that you take The Branding Workshop before you take this session.

PANELIST BIO

Louise Kiely - Louise has a Degree in Law from University College Cork. She also trained at The Gaiety School of Acting. She was an Actor for a period before setting up Louise Kiely Casting in 2005. Recent Credits include THE GREEN KNIGHT (Dir: David Lowery), HERSELF (Dir: Phyllida Lloyd), DATING AMBER (Dir: David Freyne), WOLFWALKERS (Dirs: Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart) & NORMAL PEOPLE (Dirs: Lenny Abrahamson & Hetttie McDonald). Louise was nominated for an Emmy for her work on NORMAL PEOPLE in 2020.
