SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Breathing Life Into a Printed Page with Suzanne Toren

Feb 18, 2021 - 3:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST

Where: Online

When: Noon PT / 3 p.m ET

CLASS SYNOPSIS

This class will focus on how to make a book come alive.

Please choose a book-fiction, non-fiction—whatever is exciting for you-and choose 2-3 pages to read.  You can choose 2 separate passages, or 2 different books-if there is time, each person can do a second one.

If you can, let there be some dialogue between 2 or more characters.  If you can, let the dialogue be among men and women---so you get to voice a character whose gender is different from your own.

If you have any questions regarding Audiobook narration-as a newcomer to this craft, or as an experienced narrator-please ask them at the beginning of the class-we can answer them, by example, as each person reads their  passages.

(And, of course, as questions arise, please ask them during class as well!)

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Suzanne Toren is an actor who has appeared on and off Broadway, in regional theatres, and occasionally on TV. She has received multiple Audie nominations, and many industry awards, including Narrator of the Year and Best Voices of the Year.  In 2019,  she received the lifetime honor of a Golden Voice award, from AudioFile Magazine, for “significant contributions  to the Audiobook art form.” Making beautifully crafted  writing come alive is her passion; she is honored and thrilled to have been able to earn a living doing it.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Please have ready 2-3 pages to read (fiction or non-fiction.)
  • If fiction, let there be some dialogue between 2 or more characters among men and women.
  • Please refrain from choosing religious material or texts.
  • If you have previously attended this class, you will be removed from the RSVP list.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Beginner Bundle: Intro to Commercial Voiceover Workouts

Feb 16, 2021 - 4:30 PM to 4:30 PM PST

Where: Online

This introductory workout/class is for performers that are completely new  to voiceover or for those that have some experience , but want a moderately paced learning experience that focuses on the fundamentals of a specific voiceover genre.  In this case commercial voiceover is the focus, as well as an introduction to the VO Lab's workout group structure.  Attendees will practice reading commercial VO copy (Lab provided) and receive direction and feedback from the engineer/booth director and peers within the group.

Program duration: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) / 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Eastern)

REQUIREMENTS

This class/workout is open to all VO Lab eligible members that meet the requirements.  There are no location restrictions on this or any VO Lab programs, so if you do not live in Los Angeles you can participate in programs that originate from Los Angeles.

This is an introductory class/workout.  If you have previously attended the Beginner Bundle, Commercial Workouts for the Absolute Beginner or standard (non-Beginner Bundle) VO Lab Commercial Workout groups, you are not eligible for this offering.

Once the RSVP list is finalized (approx. two hours prior to the class/workout), each performer on the RSVP list will be asked if they want to be included in the random selection of designated reader spots. Copy will then be issued to those that want to be included.  During the class/workout we will randomly select 10-12 designated readers using a transparent selection process.

If you are not on the  RSVP list, but are interested in potentially joining as an Auditor add your name to the Waitlist. If there is no Waitlist option available, that means that all program seating options are full.

Attendees must stay for the entire program.

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation Voiceover Labs normally require VO Lab eligible performers to complete one (1) Solo Booth session before being able to participate in VO Lab programs.  With the VO Labs now being temporarily closed, we are waiving that requirement.  Until further notice, performers that have completed the VO Lab Orientation and have VO Lab eligibility can participate in the VO Lab's Online Programs.  However, certain program prerequisites still apply, so be sure to carefully read the additional REQUIREMENTS of each VO Lab program. If you meet the criteria you can participate. If you do not meet the initial criteria, complete the prerequisites and you can move forward.
