During the first half of the class, we'll break down exactly how a computer works to provide a foundation for subsequent learning. During the second half of the class, members can ask any general computing questions so the class will be tailored to fit your needs. 

This class is intended for beginners, though members with more experience also stand to benefit. No materials are required.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Website Building Workshop, Part 2

NOTE: This is a THREE-HOUR class beginning at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET that will take place ONLINE.

The purpose of this workshop is to pick up where members left in the Part 1 class. That said, this is not a rehash of that previous class. In this three-hour class, members will learn various new skills to enhance their existing actor website. The first half of the class will discuss search engine optimization, creating blog pages, customizing themes and fonts, adding custom code, creating one page websites, among others. During the second half of the class, you'll be given the chance to incorporate these new features into your existing website. 

This class is not an introduction on how to use a computer, so basic computer skills are needed. No exceptions.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Website Building Workshop

Come build your website with the free online website builder, WEEBLY.COM

NOTE: This is a THREE HOUR class beginning at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET that will take place ONLINE.

The purpose of this workshop is to instruct SAG-AFTRA members on building a professional actor website using the free online builder, WEEBLY.  In this three hour session, members will learn how the site works and some of the basic functions provided. Some members may have a fully functioning web site completed within 3 hours. Most members will have about 50-80 percent of their site completed. 

This class is not an introduction on how to use a computer, so basic computer skills are needed.  No exceptions.

All members are expected to have a functioning website by the end of the workshop.

Members must have the following organized in a folder on their desktop for this class:

  • At least 2 different DIGITAL headshots 
  • 1 resume (PDF and/or DOC)
  • 1 video link to Youtube or Vimeo (reel, short, etc – anything that you can use as an example)

SAG-AFTRA Foundation - Tackling Tough Text: Medical and Pharma Copy (Intermediate/Advanced)

Medical and pharmaceutical commercials, industrials and explainer videos are abundant and incredibly varied in tone and complexity. This niche area of VO requires a highly specialized skill set. Talent must be able to tackle cumbersome and technical medical jargon, move swiftly from tone to tone, and articulate the narrative with precision and authority. In this class, VO Lab Booth Director and VO talent, Tatiana Grey will go over techniques and approaches to navigate this often dense and complicated type of copy. 

Please note: This is an intermediate to advanced level class. Not every participant will be called on to read.

This is an intermediate to advanced level class. Please plan to stay for two-hour duration (Noon - 2 p.m. PT / 3-5 p.m. ET). Please note: not every attendee will be called on to read.

SYNOPSIS

Resumes are so much more than a statement of an actor's work history. They can also reflect an actor's personality, understanding of the industry, and their future potential roles. This session will provide a greater understanding of the role of the resume and how an actor can best use it as one of their marketing tools.

Please bring pencil or pen along with something to take notes.

Small Group Sessions are facilitated discussions with the goal of digging deeper into some of the information and advice shared within the panels. These sessions provide a time to break down concepts into practical action items by which an actor can individually apply to their professional pursuits. This session will last for 1.5 - 2 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation: The Founder's Series - Randy Thomas' Navigating Live Announce and Promo Voiceover

Randy Thomas is a trailblazing voiceover talent that has worked in radio, promo, live announce and other popular niches of voiceover. For this program Randy will share some of her methods and perspectives to help participants better understand the nuances involved when voicing live programs and serving as the promo voice of various networks and affiliated programs. All levels are welcome.

Randy Thomas

America’s premiere female live voice announcer, Randy Thomas made history as the first woman to announce The Academy Awards©, The Emmy Awards©, The SAG Awards©, The AFI Awards©, to name a few. As the seven-time announcer of The Oscars©, and seventeen-time Tony© announcer, Thomas has been winning accolades and opening doors for female voice artists for over 20 years. In 2015 Thomas kicked open even more doors for women as the first woman to announce the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and most recently the Kennedy Center Honors. Then, in 2018 she became the first woman to become the voice of ABC's Nightline, a stalwart TV news magazine that redefined the genre. 

In addition to voice over, with more than 20 years of experience as a radio personality in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Miami, Thomas has gone on to achieve her dreams as one of the most recognizable voiceover artists in the world.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation: The Founder's Series - Processing VO with George Whittam and Tim Friedlander

INSTRUCTOR BIOS

George Whittam

George is a 1997 graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in music and audio technology. George went on to acquire considerable expertise in music recording, live sound, sound for fitness, film production sound mixing, and gained broadcast engineering experience working at 94 WYSP (now WIP) as the remote engineer for the NFL Eagles Radio Network.

George Whittam is the global authority on the technology of voiceover recording, investing thousands of hours researching studio design, recording equipment, and creating training materials for voice actors. Among his many successful clients are Malcolm McDowell, Allison Janney, Patrick Warburton, Rolonda Watts, Melissa Disney, Tara Strong, Joe Cipriano, and (the late) Miguel Ferrer.

George co-hosts the popular live webcast Voice Over Body Shop at VOBS.TV, a show dedicated to the education and support of voice actors around the world.  George is now known as "George The Tech" and provides his technical services at GeorgeTheTech.com.

Tim Friedlander

Tim Friedlander is an award winning, Los Angeles-based voice actor specializing in Promo, Political, Commercial, Narration, and Animation. He is best known for his work on Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man, and as Long Caster in Ace Combat 7.  Tim is currently the voice of Toymakerz, the, #1 hit show on the Velocity Channel/History.  Season 4 begins in the fall of 2021 on History Channel! In 2016, Tim voiced the the new History Channel series Evil Genius, an 8 episode series about the most ingenious crimes of the last 100 years.  In 2015 Tim was the winner of the That's VoiceOver/CBS2 Audition Spotlight. Since 2016 Tim has been nominated for 8 SOVAS voice arts awards, including in the Best Political Voice Over, Best Promo, Best Narration, and Demo Production Categories.

Located in the Hollywood area, Tim works out of soundBOX:LA, his custom built voice over studio equipped with ISDN, ipDTL, SourceConnect and broadcast quality equipment. 

Tim is represented by Atlas Talent in Los Angeles and New York.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation: The Founder's Series - Paul Pape's Finding Your Signature Voice (5-Class Course)

In this 5-day voiceover course, performers will examine the personal life experiences that shape ones unique identity and voice.  Through honest and open introspection, the aim is to help unearth the signature sound  that are your own and undeniably distinct. Pivotal moments in your life are often layered with emotional context that lead to interesting new directions and performances. Learning to access those emotions can fuel your authenticity and ultimately improve your voiceover artistry.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Paul Pape

Paul Pape is one of the co-founders of the Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab. A 33-year veteran with over 7500 voiceover credits, he served as one of the main voices for the Presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. His diverse history of credits include brand names such as SONY Electronics, the Environmental Defense Fund, IMAX. Barclay's Bank, Lexus, AARP and Electronic Arts. A top ADR performer as well, he has worked on over 140 television series in addition to countless major films and animated features.
