This initiative gives voice to the caregiver in a supportive, confidential and safe space, as well as looking at the importance of self-care, including mind-body exercises, community, discussion and expression for replenishment and empowerment.

Orientation is the first step to enrolling in the services of The Career Center. 

The Career Center addresses a central challenge for performing arts and entertainment professionals: navigating the episodic nature of work in the industry. For many, survival work—initiated to make ends meet—ends up draining the creative professional and becoming more of a problem than a solution. This orientation will help you begin to take the necessary steps to identify meaningful work that complements your life in the entertainment business.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation - Audacity 102: How to Produce a Voiceover Commercial

This class is the follow up to Audacity 101. Participants must have the proficiency with Audacity to self-produce an audio commercial with voice, music and sound effects. Learning to mix various pieces of audio and understand the fundamentals of audio production are the goals.  For the inspired, it will provide a blueprint on how to produce a voiceover demo.  

REQUIREMENTS

  • This is not an Audacity beginner class. Completion of Audacity 101 at the DLF VO Lab or experience using Audacity software is required. Prospective participants (those on the Waitlist, as well) may be emailed additional questions to help us understand your knowledge of Audacity.
  • Participants must be proficient using Audacity software for recording and editing audio.
  • Have Audacity downloaded onto your laptop computer.  THE URL: https://www.audacityteam.org  If you already have it ready to go on your computer there is no need to download it again.
  • Participants must be present for the entire program (5-7:30 p.m. PT / 8-10:30 p.m. ET).

SAG-AFTRA Foundation - Stage Fright(s): Coping with Performance Anxiety

What's scarier than stage fright? In honor of the spooky month of October, this SAG-AFTRA Foundation's Voiceover Lab and The Business Online panel confronts the fears that often haunt performers before, during and after they take the stage. Featuring professionals trained in mindfulness, Feldenkrais Method, hypnosis and more, the panel focuses on how performers from all facets of the industry can use mental and physical techniques to calm and center themselves in the face of performance anxiety on and off the stage, screen and microphone. 

This one hour session (4-5 p.m. PT / 7-8 p.m. ET) will include a panel discussion with Suzanne Toren, Melissa Tiers, Peter Pamela Rose, and moderator Gabra Zackman, followed by a member Q&A. Member participation is encouraged!

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Audacity 101: Multi-Track Recording + Key Features

Audacity is a widely used FREE DAW for Macs and PCs that is very popular in voiceover. Knowing how to use more of its functions can advance your workflow and help you produce better audio recordings and ultimately help you produce better sounding auditions, voiceover demos, songs and other audio related projects. This is important to your knowledge base and the concepts learned in Audacity 101 can help you with other multi-track recording software. Also, completion of Audacity 101 qualifies you to take Audacity 102, where you will produce a commercial with voiceover, music and sound effects.

Duration of program: 5 - 7 PM (Pacific) / 8 - 10 PM (Eastern)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience with Audacity or other audio software applications is highly recommended. If you have no previous experience with Audacity or other audio software applications, joining this class for exposure to it's capabilities and for information purposes may be an option for you, as knowledge is power. However, just know that some of the concepts may be difficult to understand. 
  • Very Important: Audacity must be downloaded on to your computer and functioning properly before this class begins  Download instructions and OS (Windows/Mac/Linux) compatibility are on the Audacityteam.org website. Follow the instructions on that site to ensure the software is working properly on your computer.  We will not be able to commit time to troubleshooting download issues during the class.  Email questions to ashuford@sagaftra.foundation

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Voiceover Lab Orientation

Oct 15, 2021 - 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM PDT

Begins at noon PT / 3 p.m. ET

VO Lab programs and sessions are open to all SAG-AFTRA members and VO Lab eligible performers that meet the requirements, regardless of your location or the VO Lab program's city of origin. Once you have completed the required Voiceover Lab Application (online), you must complete the Voiceover Lab Orientation (VOLO) in order to begin using the Lab. This 2-hour VOLO covers Lab policies, home recording and other related topics.  There will also be a recording and editing demonstration using Twisted Wave software.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participation in VO Lab programs is open to union members in good standing, regardless of your geographical location or a program's city of origin. Join Details are generally emailed to participants approx. 1-2 Hours before the start time of the program. 
  • Attendees must be present for the entire program (12:30 - 2 p.m. PT / 3:30- 5:30 p.m. ET) in order to receive VO Lab eligibility. If you have a schedule conflict, please attend orientation at another time.
