Join the N.Y. Military Committee for an informative sessions featuring a claims representative from the New York City Department of Veterans Services. Get to know your committee and hear about the resources and benefits available to veterans including scholarships and educational funds, housing assistance programs and VA healthcare services. 

The N.Y. Local Military Committee advocates for SAG-AFTRA members who have served, or presently serve in the US military. We endeavor to increase employment opportunities by outreach and engagement across the entertainment industry and by providing developement opportunities such as classes, panels and gatherings to engage and unite the community.

Want tips on how to upload self tapes? Need help understanding tech for Zoom auditions? Members of the New York NextGen Performers Committee invite you to stop by for an opportunity to connect with fellow members and get answers to any burning tech questions related to your career.

The NextGen Performers (NGP) Committee works to develop, serve and connect the emerging generation of SAG-AFTRA membership. Through social events, social media networking and community outreach, NGP creates an educated, engaged and energized union membership. NGP reinforces the vitality of SAG-AFTRA and its benefits early in our members' professional lives.

Kids and Teens Day at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation

Calling all teen and kid SAG-AFTRA members! The SAG-AFTRA New York Young Performers Committee invites you to Kids and Teens Day at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. Come camera-ready for a fun-filled day of programming and classes in the SAG-AFTRA Foundation On-Camera and Voiceover Labs. Activities will include group sessions with a professional agent, casting director and photographer:

  • Free Headshots from Headshot Photographer Rex Lott
  • Casting Access Class with Casting Director Carolyn Volpe 
  • Voiceover Casting Class with Casting Director Angela Mickey

Parents will have a separate line of programming including a presentation about the many services offered by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and tutorials in the On-Camera and Voiceover Labs.

Breakfast and lunch will be served.

RSVP: Reservations are required and space is limited. Please complete the form below - you must be logged in to access the form. Due to space limitations we can only accommodate one parent or guardian per young performer.  If a parent or guardian is attending with the young performer please update the attendee count to 2 below and include their name on the form where noted.

This program is made possible by a grant from the SAG-AFTRA – Producers Industry Advancement and Cooperative Fund.

Preparation for On-Camera Work

This class will introduce acting terminology, screenwriting, and genre and how that affects acting for the camera. 
This course will help students begin to develop a personal preparation system for an on-camera role and introduce them to the business of film and television. Filled with a mix of science and artistry this class focuses on bringing your best for the camera, and learn basic set etiquette.

Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

Self-Producing 101: From Pre- to Post- & Everything In-between Part 1

Have you been daunted by self-producing or are you an old hat? Self-Producing 101 will delve
into everything pre-production, production, and post-production to give you a template for how
to be prepared at each level of your filmmaking. Featuring Q&As at the end of each session,
bring your notepads and questions and get ready to create your own work!

PART 1: PRE-PRODUCTION

  • Script Breakdown: cast, locations, days (& location contracts, etc.)

Advanced Scene Study & Audition Technique

Through the lens of the self-tape audition, we'll focus on what you can do to bring your work to the next level. Please bring a TV/Film scene not more than 2 minutes in length (about 2 pages). Up to 8 participants will have the opportunity to work on a scene.

Advanced Screenwriting
