Hosted by Looking Ahead Co-Chair Fred Savage (The Wonder Years), the first annual celebration of The Actors Fund’s Looking Ahead Awards honored leaders in the young performer community on Dec. 4 at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles. The Looking Ahead program helps professional young performers and their families address challenges of working in the entertainment industry by fostering the values, skills and confidence needed to make successful transitions into adulthood.

The ceremony featured Oscar-winner Hilary Swank, who honored her mother, Judy Swank, with the Looking Ahead Parenting Award. Oscar-winner Margaret O’Brien received the Shirley Temple Award, Max Burkholder of NBC’s Parenthood was the recipient of the Social Awareness Award, and Tia and Tamera Mowry earned the Education Award.

Savage was surprised to be presented (along with casting director Sharon Lieblein) with the Community Service Award by young performer Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Ender’s Game).

“This is overwhelming and unexpected and just seeing this room tonight and the growth and expansion of this program and all the young performers that have been helped is rewarding enough,” said Savage during his acceptance speech.

SAG-AFTRA L.A. Local Board member Lauri Hendler and L.A. Local Board and National Board member Mimi Cozzens, and SAG-AFTRA L.A. Local Board member and Young Performers Committee National Co-Chair Elizabeth McLaughlin were in attendance, lending their support to the program.
