The mayor's balcony on the second floor of San Francisco's City Hall provided a movie screen-worthy backdrop for the swearing in of Manijeh Fata, the newly appointed executive director of the San Francisco Film Commission.
Around 75 community members, actors, local filmmakers, union leaders and film commissioners enjoyed the view of City Hall's rotunda, familiar to moviegoers who have seen it in films such as Dirty Harry, Milk and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was the perfect place to welcome Fata officially into the role she has been filling since the beginning of 2022.
Evident in many Film S.F. meetings during her tenure as interim executive director, Fata’s knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication has been evident. Sharing the podium with San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Fata, who helped shepherd such notable projects as The Last Black Man in San Francisco and The Matrix Resurrections, expressed her commitment to local production opportunities, diversity and equity for the talented artists that make up the city's film community, telling the gathered crowd, “My heart is incredibly full right now.”
Going forward, Fata will now be the film industry's local point person at City Hall.
