New Orleans Local members read a screenplay at Scene to Screen.

The SAG-AFTRA New Orleans Local Conservatory Committee hosted a Scene to Screen (S2S) reading of David Margulis’ screenplay Maw Maw’s Goo. The reading occurred at Second Line Studios in the Lower Garden District on March 19.

The local’s third S2S gave 19 local SAG-AFTRA members the opportunity to read roles from Maw Maw’s Goo. The S2S format allows local SAG-AFTRA actors to hone their cold-reading skills and network with fellow union members. It also encourages local screenwriters to hear professional actors read their screenplays.

Screenwriters Margulis and George Sanchez were recognized by SAG-AFTRA at the event for the selection of their screenplays, Margulis’ Maw Maw’s Goo and Sanchez’s A Place Unchanged, for the New Orleans Local’s S2S readings in 2018. Margulis, a New Orleans independent film producer, studied directing at New York University and screenwriting at UCLA. Sanchez is an actor, a writer and a member of the New Orleans Local Board.
