Over 900 actors, broadcasters, voiceover artists and performing artists populate Portland’s SAG-AFTRA Local. From time to time, we’re going to take a moment to introduce our Portland members to each other.
Portland Local Board Member Chrisse Roccaro
How long have you been a SAG-AFTRA member?
Since 1979.
How did you earn your SAG-AFTRA card?
I joined AFTRA in Portland in 1977 and when I moved to New York in 1979, I joined SAG and AEA.
What does SAG-AFTRA membership mean to you?
Confidence that I will be paid a decent wage while working in a safe environment, and confidence that I will be paid!
Why did you decide to serve on the Portland Local Board?
I found board service to be the quickest way to become involved in my local industry and find it a meaningful way to further our members’ rights and responsibilities.
Any parting thoughts you would like to share with your fellow SAG-AFTRA members?
Union membership has meant the world to me, even as my activism has, during certain eras, jeopardized my ability to get work (“don't hire the union loudmouth!”). The stands I continue to take to uphold the principles and benefits of union membership in our industry fill me with pride in my work with my sisters and brothers.
