On Saturday, Sept. 9, SAG-AFTRA members took to Fifth Avenue, joining the New York City Central Labor Council and thousands of union members from across the city at the nation’s oldest and largest Labor Day parade. SAG-AFTRA members came out strong for this event, bringing one of the largest contingents to the parade. As the Hot Labor Summer continued, the parade was a strong reminder of the solidarity among labor unions across industries in New York City.
The theme of this year’s parade was “We Organize, We Rise.” The parade took place at a pivotal moment in history, in the midst of SAG-AFTRA’s TV/Theatrical and streaming contract strike. SAG-AFTRA members are fighting for a fair and equitable contract that reflects the new business model, with fair compensation and regulations on the use of artificial intelligence.
