Arizona-Utah Local Members gathered in Phoenix for the annual membership meeting in Arizona.

Flipping work, welcoming new members and sending a message of support to our negotiating committee were some of the highlights of this year’s membership meeting in Phoenix on Nov. 4, 2023. The meeting began with an easy new electronic check-in, a delicious breakfast, and a photo slideshow of the year in review of local events created by Board member Joe Corcoran.

Arizona-Utah Local President Amanda Melby encouraged members to volunteer on local committees and sign up for mailing lists for the Arizona Film & Digital Media Coalition, SAG-AFTRA Foundation, and Entertainment Community Fund in addition to visiting sagaftra.org/membertoolkit for all kinds of helpful info and sign up for direct deposit.

National Board member Margie Ghigo reported on the TV/Theatrical/Streaming and interactive contracts as well as new member benefits on IMDb and Medicare benefit plans among other updates. Director of Locals Administration Lisha Brock shared updates on union news and innovations, and presented useful information on how to flip projects into union jobs.

Following the reports, members who transferred to the Arizona-Utah Local were presented with local-branded swag, and new members were welcomed to SAG-AFTRA in a pinning ceremony. The meeting ended with a group photo and video message of support to the TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee to “break us off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar.”

Special thanks to Local Board members Saylor Billings, Michael Candela, Mike Caprio, Joe Corcoran and Jeff Unterkofler, along with members-at-large Judy Carmen Gonzalez, Lela Hough, Shannon Land, Mike Lawler and Ted Raymond, who all volunteered to help the event run smoothly, from setup to breakdown. Extra special thanks to our host venue, the American Federation of Musicians Local 586.
