Sonny G.

Greetings All,

I know it's been a rough couple of years for us all and, up until now, things have been relatively quiet with the Colorado Local, as we focused on helping to keep our members safe and working during the pandemic. But we’ve now turned a corner, and it’s time for us to get involved: In our film and media community, with our union and certainly in the TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike! While we may not currently have any AMPTP studios and streamers projects in the market, that doesn’t mean the fight isn’t as important to the Colorado members. This is a fight for our future, and now is the time for solidarity and action.

The Colorado members and our allies will have opportunities in the coming weeks to rally together to support the strike efforts. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events. In the meantime, I encourage you to get engaged and take action. Social media is a powerful tool and an easy way for us all to make our voices heard. Here are a few important links: SAG-AFTRA Social Toolkit and the SAG-AFTRA strike website.

In other news: Welcome to any new members who have joined over the past year. I hope to meet you at an event or on set soon! Here’s a link to some member benefits you may not know about.

While we all receive a lot of emails on a daily basis, during this important time, please try to keep an eye out for information and updates from your union. There are also other ways to catch up with Colorado specifically: The Colorado Local webpage is a great resource to stay current on what’s going on in the market, as is the SAG-AFTRA app. You can click here to download the app if you don’t already have it. Both will provide you with a list of the current Colorado Local Board members, contact information for various departments and more.

It’s important that you are informed on what’s happening within our union and our local, so we’ll try to send out more regular correspondence moving forward. That said, we’d like to hear from you. Please feel free to outreach at coloradopresident@sagaftra.org with ideas and concerns you have for the local, including what programs you would like to see implemented.

Over the next year we will continue to educate the community on the value of working with SAG- AFTRA and its members. When resources allow, we’d like to reignite our Talk it Up conservatory-type events sometime this fall and we’ll be holding our annual membership meeting before the end of the year.

Don’t forget: The strike does not impact commercial work and the Colorado Local has a great Regional Commercials Code. Check it out here: Regional Commercials Code. These codes offer an advertiser competitive rates, simplified paperwork and flexibility, including the ability to apply the contract to a single production, which may appeal to employers hesitant to sign on as a full-term signatory.

SAG-AFTRA members like you are the most successful organizers of this type of work. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or have a lead on a job you want to try and flip.

Remember, SAG-AFTRA is all of us, and we can learn from one another, motivate and inspire one another and together bring more work to this great state.
