Learn what it means for SAG-AFTRA to be on strike and what comes next.

In a perfect world, I would like someone on the other side to say, ‘We have to make this a more employee-friendly industry. It behooves us all to take that high road.’ That would be a great achievement for us. And I would like to see SAG-AFTRA repositioned at the center of the wheel upon which the entire industry leverages our artistry: a powerful union that is also a leader of labor across America.

Fran Drescher

SAG-AFTRA President

On July 13, the SAG-AFTRA National Board voted unanimously to issue a strike order against the studios and streamers. This historic decision was made after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, or AMPTP, failed to reach a deal that adequately addressed the issues most important to the union's members, including provisions for economic stability and streaming revenue, and protections against the proliferation of artificial intelligence.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Dresher joins Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair and National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland to discuss the circumstances leading to the strike, what the strike means for our members and where we go from here. In the episode, union performers are provided with insight into the industry’s changing business model and its ramifications on creative workers, what type of work is and isn’t allowed during the strike action, and information on how to get involved.
