Read a message from San Diego Local Board Member Casey Robinson.
"Hello SAG-AFTRA San Diego,
"Are you feeling alone down here while it seems everything is happening two hours north? Are you feeling like the only one who needs to make the long trip up to L.A. to work? Or are you taking a break but hanging on to your SAG-AFTRA card while hoping for better days in the San Diego job market?
Well you are not alone, and most importantly, you are not without a voice. The members of the SAG-AFTRA San Diego Local Board are here to serve you and represent your needs and wishes. We have new members on the board who are anxious to see San Diego return to being a strong entertainment job market. We want to see union work produced here, and San Diego union members filling those jobs.
"But our little group of board members can’t do it alone. The very basis for a union is to stand together in solidarity, to be many voices instead of one. We are over 1,300 strong here in San Diego — yet just over 300 votes came in during the last election. Make your voice heard. Be strong and proud to live and work in San Diego. It can happen!
"We want to get to know you. Each issue we’d like to feature a story about one of our SAG-AFTRA San Diego Local members. Tell us your successes, your heartbreaks or why you are still in this crazy business. This month, just to get things rolling, I’ll share my story (see below) and try not to bore you. But for the next newsletter, let’s hear about you. Send your story to us at sandiego@sagaftra.org. Don’t want to share your story? Send us a picture of you at work.
"If you know of any union productions coming to San Diego, let us hear about it. Let’s network. We want to meet you. Come join us monthly for SAM (SAG-AFTRA Mixer) on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Studio Diner. Food and beverages will be available for purchase if you’d like — no food or drink from outside please. Just come by for informal conversation, to network and get to know your fellow SAG-AFTRA San Diego members. Put SAM on your calendar. We’re looking forward to meeting you
