Dear Miami Local Members,
Following are some important points related to our local that I wanted to share with you.
SAG-AFTRA Work in Our Local
Puerto Rico and Alabama have been ahead of the game when it comes to production of regular theatrical and TV projects. They have been the lucky ones in attracting work to their area.
In Florida, our amazing Legislative Committee, together with staff, are working to take advantage of a current window of opportunity we appear to have in regaining a production incentives program. If our help is requested, it’s crucial that we convey our message to get the support of Florida legislators.
Going Union
Turning non-union employers into employers who sign our contracts is our most powerful tool in expanding and securing our excellent wages and working conditions. SAG-AFTRA work is one of the most effective ways to inspire non-union performers to join our union.
As members, we should contact the local office to inform them of non-union projects being produced in our area. Staff can turn the projects union in some cases and track those producers that choose to do their projects at the expense of providing substandard wages, working conditions and no benefits to performers.
Training, Training, Training
With changing technologies and more contracts covering work in new and growing areas of our industry, training is the key word. As performers, we must train to continue growing in our careers. We have been expanding our Conservatory events to provide us with the tools to sharpen our skills and have access to more work opportunities.
Alabama and Puerto Rico, Here We Come
Plans for events to meet with our members and pre-members in Puerto Rico and Alabama are in the works. Stay tuned.
