Happy holidays! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first national virtual holiday celebration last week. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, the replay is available on our YouTube channel

We can finally call it a wrap on 2020 next week. It has been a year like no other and despite the challenges we faced, we have shown our ability to manage the unexpected and persevere through unimaginable hardships. I am in awe of our SAG-AFTRA members, especially in the New York Local. When our community bore the initial brunt of this pandemic, it was inspiring to see us come together to keep it at bay, and touching to witness all of the ways New Yorkers helped those in need.

Before the year ends, I want to share some important deadlines and updates. First, the deadline to sign up for a health plan through the New York State of Health has been extended. New Yorkers have until next Thursday, Dec. 31, to enroll in a health plan beginning on Jan. 1, 2021. Visit their website or call (855) 355-5777 for more information or to enroll.

To date, New York has conducted over 22 million COVID tests. If you are experiencing COVID-related symptoms or believe you may have been exposed to the virus, find a testing site near you. You can also call (888) 364-3065 to schedule a free appointment at a New York State-run testing facility.

I am proud to report that according to the state's contact tracing data, media productions accounted for only .02% of infections. This is only possible because of the extensive testing, tracing and safety protocols in place, and your continued vigilance on and off-set. Thank you for continuing to follow the guidelines established in The Safe Way Forward

Finally, a reminder that you can find the NY Local Production Show Sheet and casting notices on our website. You must log in to access this information. Current listings include a Trans Youth Acting Challenge presented by Nickelodeon in partnership with actor Michael D. Cohen. The submission deadline is Monday, Jan. 11.

Our battle with this pandemic is not over, but with the recent vaccine approvals, an eventual end appears to be in sight. In the meantime, please remember to continue following all state and local emergency safety orders. If you need assistance, numerous resources and services are listed on our NY Local COVID-19 Resources page

I wish you and your family joy and good health this holiday season and hope to see you in-person in 2021. Happy New Year!

Onward together,

Rebecca Damon
New York Local President
