The scholarships are granted to SAG-AFTRA members and dependents of SAG-AFTRA members for study at accredited universities, colleges, junior colleges, adult specialty schools and trade/vocational schools.

There are four types of scholarships:

The John L. Dales Transitional Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members to pursue professions within the entertainment industry or change their career paths. An applicant can receive two Dales Transitional scholarships in a lifetime.

The George Heller Memorial Standard Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents. An applicant can receive one Heller Standard scholarship in a lifetime.

The George Heller Memorial Transitional Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members to pursue professions within the entertainment industry or change their career paths. An applicant can receive one Heller Transitional scholarship in a lifetime.

There is a single application for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Program with two tiers of scholarships offered: the John L. Dales Scholarship and the George Heller Memorial Scholarship, depending on the SAG-AFTRA member’s membership and SAG-AFTRA earnings history. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation staff determine which scholarship criteria the application meets. An applicant may qualify for only one scholarship application per year.
