Ezra Knight

Dear Member,

Your union is a space for civil engagement and a vital element of our democracy. It is a place to be of service to something greater than oneself. That need for collective engagement is as important now as it has ever been. The strength of collective action was felt here in New York, with the passing of Proposition 1, which has embedded into the New York State Constitution the right to abortion and extends anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, immigrants and older New Yorkers. I want to thank all of our members who took action, as well as the New York Local Board for their leadership, and all of the New York Local committees who were engaged as this legislation made its way through two successive legislative sessions and finally to the ballot box.

To that same end, I’d like to welcome the newest category of SAG-AFTRA members to our ranks. Intimacy coordinators — those who work as advocates, liaisons between actors and production, and movement coaches and/or choreographers on scenes that involve nudity and simulated sex — have voted to join SAG-AFTRA in a National Labor Relations Board vote. The final vote was 100% in favor of unionizing with SAG-AFTRA. We look forward to collectively supporting them in their negotiations with the AMPTP.

We are here, #UnionStrong, and will continue doing the work and fighting the fight. I am encouraged by what we can continue to do together. Stay informed and engaged. If you have not done so already, please follow the official SAG-AFTRA New York Local Facebook and X accounts, your go-to places for important updates, SAG-AFTRA news and upcoming local events that directly impact you.

Forward together,

Ezra Knight
New York Local President
