"All the world's a stage"

The San Francisco-Northern California Local Conservatory Committee is offering exciting, new programming for local membership in the year ahead and kicking off with the Screenplay Reading Series and an opportunity to submit your ideas to the Conservatory Committee. Keep reading until the end for important details!

This is a unique opportunity for SAG-AFTRA members to collaborate directly with writers and filmmakers on the development of their unproduced screenplays!

Have an unproduced screenplay that you'd like read aloud by professional SAG-AFTRA performers? Want to develop an early draft of your work or do a last reading before launching into pre-production? If your story will be shot in Northern California and/or you will be working with SAG-AFTRA members, then this program is for you to develop your script through the SF-NC Local Conservatory Screenplay Reading Series!

WHAT IS IT?

The Screenplay Reading Series is a new program that will select new works for table reads to be held at the SAG-AFTRA headquarters in downtown San Francisco. The goal is to connect writers and filmmakers with SAG-AFTRA members in the San Francisco-Northern California Local who can bring their work to life.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

This opportunity is open to any SAG-AFTRA member and to any writers and filmmaking teams that have a complete script that they intend to produce. Current SAG-AFTRA members have the option to submit their own created scripts for a reading, submit their headshot/resume/demo reel to be considered as a voluntary reader for a selected script, and/or can submit for both if interested.

Scripts can be in any stage of development but must be complete works. We are accepting shorts, features, teleplays and web series, content up to 130 pages in length from any genre. We are not accepting reality shows, theater plays or documentaries at this time.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

First our Local Conservatory subcommittee will select scripts for table reads. Once a script is selected, the writer and filmmakers will be notified to submit a casting notice to be distributed to SF-NC Local membership for the table read. Members wishing to participate in the table read may submit their headshot and resume for consideration. If selected by the writer and filmmaker team, the performers will be contacted and scheduled for the table read to be held at the SAG-AFTRA SF-NC Local headquarters at 350 Sansome Street, Suite 840, SF.

WRITERS/FILMMAKERS: To have your script considered, submit your complete script, logline, one page synopsis and a writer/filmmaker bio to sf@sagaftra.org

PERFORMERS: To be considered for the table reads, keep an eye out for Screenplay Reading Series casting notices providing more information about the selected scripts.

WHEN IS THIS DUE?

We are accepting scripts now on a rolling basis. The last day to submit is December 15th.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The San Francisco-NorCal Local Conservatory Committee at SAG-AFTRA will select the scripts for table reads. The writers and filmmakers team will then provide a full breakdown to be distributed to SF-NC Local membership. Members will be cast by the writers and filmmakers team and the table read will take place between Jan. 21-23, 2025.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

As is customary, participation in table reads for screenplays in development is voluntary, so this program is entirely free for everyone involved.

If you are interested in participating, we look forward to reading your scripts!
