It was a full night at the SAG-AFTRA Michigan Local Membership Meeting on April 30 in Detroit.

Before the meeting was formally called into session, a special awards ceremony was held for broadcaster and recent Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame inductee Vickie Thomas.

SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon, alongside Michigan Local Board President Eric Wydra, presented Thomas with a framed certificate in honor of her influential work as a union leader and for her work at WWJ Newsradio 950, a station she helped organize in the early years of her career. In addition, Thomas received a second certificate from the office of the Detroit mayor in recognition of her decades-long dedication and service to the city.

During the meeting, Damon and Wydra respectively provided local membership with presentations outlining the union’s ongoing actions and initiatives.

The meeting ended with an in-depth panel discussion titled, Everything You Wanted to Know from Your Agent, But Were Too Afraid to Ask. The panel featured three local casting agents and gave members an opportunity to hear advice on a variety of topics regarding castings and auditions.
