Food, fun and facts were the order of the day at the Houston-Austin Local membership meeting on Nov. 2.
The day began with the newly elected Houston-Austin Local Board greeting members and a tour of New Republic Studios and backlot in Elgin, Texas. The studio is not only home to several new facilities, but is already the site of new production and casting companies in the state.
Among those who joined the festivities was veteran actor Glenn Morshower, who currently works on the TV drama production The Resident. Morshower not only surprised members by attending the meeting, but also hosted his own master class on site. It was an opportunity for members to receive a lesson in creativity and optimism, but above all, they learned to always expect the unexpected!
After the master class, the membership meeting officially began. Local Executive Director Trish Avery introduced Katie Wallack, the new manager of contracts and member services within the region. Members also learned of the uptick in regional commercials due to the Texas Regional Commercial Code and the increase in state incentives for film, commercial and video game productions. The information shared at the meeting left members inspired and ready to face the new year.
