With 200 attendees at this year’s local viewing party, New England celebrated the SAG Awards in style!
Members of the New England Local gathered with friends and industry partners to toast and celebrate the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® on Feb. 24 at the Somerville Theatre in Somerville, Massachusetts. Two hundred partygoers mixed, mingled and watched the two-hour Netflix livestream on the big screen.
The 20-person New England Local SAG Awards Committee met weeks ahead of the event to plan and organize the local party, and then volunteered on-site to make things run smoothly. The theater’s first-floor lobby was decked out with a dazzling balloon-arched red carpet, while the balcony lobby was dressed with a second red carpet stretching 30 feet long with a SAG-AFTRA SAG Awards step-and-repeat backdrop and spotlights. Inside the main theater, the committee set up a stylish and bright cupcake display as well as a festive door prize area. Lucky raffle winners won SAG-AFTRA swag bags throughout the night.
New England SAG Awards Committee Chair Ted Garland emceed the night and welcomed members. A poster was featured in the balcony lobby as a tribute to local members lost over the last 12 months.
Built in 1914, the Somerville Theatre offers amazing projection and a staff of union projectionists. The entire theater staff was fantastic to work with and the beautifully maintained theater offered the perfect way to celebrate the big night. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the New England Local SAG Awards viewing party one to remember!
