One week after SAG-AFTRA went on strike, on July 20, the New Orleans Local held an informational meeting at the IATSE Local 478 union hall in New Orleans. Over 80 members gathered to get information from their elected leaders and union staff. Local President Jim Gleason shared historical information about the last time SAG-AFTRA and the WGA were on strike together and the gains that were made. Director of Locals Administration Lisha Brock provided an in-depth tour of sagaftrastrike.org and provided handouts outlining what members can and cannot work during this historic strike. Members also watched a video clip of SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher announcing the strike. Then-National Board member Olga Wilhelmine fielded questions from the audience via Zoom.
“As a fairly new member, I was so reassured to see so many union members come together to discuss this strike with such passion and support for one another.” said member Kimberly P. Coburn.
