We reached out to the local casting directors to ask for their words of wisdom in navigating this new “self-tape from home” world. Hope you find these bits of information helpful on your next audition!

• It’s important to take a beat and read all audition and self-tape instructions thoroughly before accepting an audition and memorizing sides.

• Make sure you have tried out your Zoom settings before joining a call with casting. Get on Zoom before your audition and do a trial run. Make sure your name is on the screen, not “iPhone.” You might need to download the app and sign in through an authenticated account in order for this to work prior to joining.

• Take your phone off of lock mode before joining the call, so that when you are asked to use your phone horizontally, you won’t run into any issues.

• Performers should invest in mindfulness practices and take their self-care seriously. The vacuum that we are all working in makes things hard, so make that part of your work process.
