The annual Awards For Excellence in Broadcasting recognize the work and achievements of radio and television broadcasters across 20 different categories.

The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters held its 2024 Awards For Excellence in Broadcasting on April 24-25. The annual event recognizes the work and achievements of radio and television broadcasters across 20 different categories.

Included among this year's honorees were KYW Newsradio anchor Denise Nakano and CBS News Philadelphia reporter Jessica Kartalija. Nakano received the Radio Broadcaster of the Year Award, and Kartalija received the award for Television Broadcaster of the Year. 

Nakano is the midday anchor at KYW Newsradio, 103.9 FM and 1060 AM, and has been with the station since 2020. Throughout her tenure, she has covered some of the region’s biggest stories and been recognized with numerous awards, including eight national and regional Emmys for breaking news and investigative reporting.

In addition to anchoring the 5, 6 and 11 CBS News Philadelphia newscasts, Kartalija teaches journalism at Villanova University. She also is involved with numerous philanthropic causes including serving on the advisory board for Horizons Greater Philadelphia, a camp for children with cancer, the Special Olympics, The House of Ruth Maryland, and the Women’s Initiative Network at Kennedy Krieger Institute.
