Labor seders have long been an opportunity for the organized Jewish and labor communities to celebrate freedom together.
SAG-AFTRA Philadelphia Local members were in attendance at the 2024 “Bobbi Willig” Labor Seder on April 25. The seder was hosted by the Philadelphia branch of the Congregation Rodeph Shalom synagogue and the Philadelphia Jewish Labor Committee.
Labor seders have long been an opportunity for the organized Jewish and labor communities to celebrate freedom together, and this year’s theme was “Overcoming Hate Through Unity.” Event speakers included Philadelphia AFL-CIO President Danny Bauder, the Jewish Community Relations Council Director Jason Holtzman, and the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 President Wendell Young IV. The event was chaired by Philadelphia Musician Union Local 77 Vice President Marjorie Goldberg, whose members were also in attendance to show their support.
The Congregation Rodeph Shalom is an historic Reform Jewish congregation and synagogue with branches across the United States. Established in 1795, it is the oldest Ashkenazi synagogue in the Western Hemisphere.
The Philadelphia Jewish Labor Committee, formed in 1934, upholds the Philadelphia Jewish community’s commitment to social justice and economic fairness, and advocates for fair wages and decent working conditions through collaboration with local grassroots organizations and initiatives.
