Members of the SAG-AFTRA Philadelphia Local joined their fellow film industry advocates for an important press announcement at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on May 6. As part of a larger group of stakeholders consisting of local performers and members of the Greater Philadelphia and Pittsburgh film offices, the contingent was present to make a major legislative push to increase the Pennsylvania Film Tax Credit to $300 million.
Together, the group sent a message that the legislature must take action to protect the film tax credit program and ensure that the thousands of Pennsylvania residents who work in this industry can continue to earn their livelihoods within the state.
After the press announcement, those in attendance stopped by their legislator’s office to deliver personal messages on the positive impact of the credit.
The long history of film in Pennsylvania is in jeopardy, but when cast and crew earn a consistent living, Pennsylvania and local taxing jurisdictions all benefit. To get involved, reach out to the Philadelphia Local via email, philadelphia@sagaftra.org, or (215) 732-0507.
