Today is a very sad day for our SAG-AFTRA local. We lost Jim Ed Brown, a country music icon, who was the cornerstone of our union. Jim Ed became an AFTRA member in 1959 before Nashville even had a local office and transferred his membership here in 1965 to become one of our first local members and our longest continuous member. He served for over 20 years on our local board and was the most beloved member of our union family.

Jim Ed was an inspiration to so many songwriters, singers and musicians and had an active career spanning over six decades. Even during his recent health battles he managed to come to our board meetings and lend his support. At the last meeting he attended, he received a spontaneous standing ovation to celebrate his recent induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Jim Ed was an irreplaceable part of our local and his legacy as a proud and humble man of extraordinary talent whose mere presence lent gravity to any situation will not be forgotten.

Our staff and all of our board members send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Becky and his family, friends and fans. There won’t be another Jim Ed Brown.
