Broadcast shops from Seattle and Portland dominated the categories at the 52nd Annual Northwest Regional Emmy Awards, announced June 6 in Seattle.

Seattle’s KING-Television garnered top honors in 20 categories, including: Overall Excellence, General Assignment, Feature News, and Investigative Reporting, Continuing Coverage, News Special, Consumer News, Human Interest, and Health Science Special Reporting. Reporter John Sharify also received two awards for News General Assignment and News Specialty Reporting, while Chris Egan took the honors for Outstanding Sports Anchor.  In addition, KING Morning News Anchor Joyce Taylor shared the award for Outstanding News Anchor with KOMO-Television Daytime and Evening News Anchor Molly Shen.

KOMO also took home 12 other statues including: Community Service Excellence, Morning and Evening News Broadcasts, Breaking News Coverage, General Assignment Reporting, Health/Science and Crime News.  KIRO-Television earned 5 awards for Spot News Reporting, Team Coverage, Politics/Government News, Interactivity, and Best Weather Anchor for Meteorologist Sam Argier.

Portland shop KGW-Television received 4 awards for: Small Market Morning and Evening News Coverage, Community/Public Service PSA’s, with the Outstanding Program Host Award going to Laural Porter for the station’s current affairs program, Straight Talk.

The awards, presented annually by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, recognize outstanding achievement in television news reporting for the region covering Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
