The SAG-AFTRA National Board voted unanimously today to declare a strike against Bartle Bogle Hegarty LLC (BBH), a long-time signatory ad agency owned by Publicis Groupe. The strike is effective immediately.
In a direct and unprecedented assault on performers’ ability to earn a living wage for the use of their image selling advertiser products, BBH unilaterally announced the union’s Commercials Contracts no longer apply to them. They are now producing non-union commercials and paying substandard wages in violation of their legal obligations.
SAG-AFTRA called this strike in response to BBH’s reprehensible and illegal decision so we can protect members from BBH’s exploitative practices.
While the strike is in force, SAG-AFTRA members may not audition for or accept work from BBH. Accepting work during the BBH strike is a serious violation of members’ responsibility to one another and to SAG-AFTRA, and can result in fines, suspension or expulsion.
This strike only affects BBH and no other ad agency. Members may continue auditioning and accepting commercial work on SAG-AFTRA contracts for any other signatory company.
