Labor Day Parade

I hope everyone enjoyed their summer and was able to use some vacation time during the warm weather.

You may know it’s the Fair Labor Act that sets the legal minimum wage (still woefully unchanged for 10 years at $7.25 an hour) and requires overtime pay, buy did you know it does NOT regulate or require employers to offer paid vacation or paid holiday time? You see where I’m going here, and a reminder that it’s your union contract through your union dues that provides the collective bargaining power for fair wages, a safe workplace and, for broadcasters, severance and paid vacation time.

I also hope you’ll read up on what SAG-AFTRA is doing for you by going to sagaftra.org if you haven’t been there lately. And while you’re at it, read up on disturbing legislation that was created to weaken unions by legally allowing workers under a union contract to freeload and neglect their obligation to pay their union dues. Support legislation and lawmakers who encourage collective bargaining and encourage their constituents to pay their fair share!

The Labor Day parade was a great success. It was great to see everyone again. In addition to Philadelphia, we also marched in Delaware this year. Hello to our brothers and sisters in the First State.
