SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Linda Powell spoke at the A.I. & the Future of Work Conference on Sept. 14. The conference, hosted by The NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America labor union, was held at Cornell University.

During the panel, How to Survive in Media & Entertainment as Generative A.I. Worms Its Way In, Powell and fellow panelists, TNG-CWA Vice President Mike Warren and member Amber Iovine, conversed about the growth and use of A.I. in broadcasting. Topics included early examples of A.I. within the broadcast industry and the ethical questions it raises. The trio also conversed about ways unions can help raise public awareness of the increased influence of A.I. in news and storytelling.

Founded in 1933, the TNG-CWA works to improve journalists’ wages and working conditions and fights for universal ethical practices within the news and journalism industry.
