Because of the inherent complexities of agency relations today, SAG-AFTRA has received numerous requests to clarify the current state of affairs with respect to its franchised agents in Arizona.
Pursuant to the requirements of SAG-AFTRA's membership rules, Union members in Arizona are required to be represented by agents that are franchised under either the SAG and/or AFTRA agency regulations. Here is a link to those agents for your convenience: SAG-AFTRA franchised agents in Arizona.
Representational relationships with non-franchised agents in Arizona do not comply with SAG-AFTRA rules and regulations, unless specific exceptions apply. This precaution is necessary in order to ensure that our members’ rights are fully protected in their relationships with their agents. Franchised agents (as well as the SAG-AFTRA members they represent) are protected by, and bound to, the terms and conditions of Rule 16(g), a/k/a the SAG Agency Regulations and/or Rule 12-C, a/k/a the AFTRA Agency Regulations. Agents in Arizona who are not franchised are outside SAG-AFTRA’s jurisdiction, and our members should be careful not to place themselves in violation of SAG-AFTRA membership rules by deciding to work with such agencies, and potentially opening themselves up to disciplinary review because of it.
Should you have any agency-related questions, please do not hesitate to contact SAG-AFTRA’s Professional Representatives Department at (323) 549-6745 or agency@sagaftra.org, or Director of Locals Administration Lisha Brock at (214) 363-8300 ext 5 or lisha.brock@sagaftra.org.
Also, please continue to check the SAG-AFTRA website for updated information on this and any other union matters. The Professional Representatives section of the website is located here.
Thank you.
