This year’s SAG-AFTRA blood drive on Oct. 15 at the Kaufherr Resource Center was a huge success thanks to all the members that came out to save lives.

Chicago Local Board member Courtney Rioux organized the blood drive along with staff liaison Kathy Byrne, director, TV/Theatrical contracts. Rioux has a very personal reason for getting so deeply involved in the event.

“My friends’ 3-year-old son, Jackson, has been in the hospital for months now with a list of reasons a mile long. Seeing pictures of him incoherent with tubes in his face had me crying every day. Many friends, including me, reached out to see what we could do to help. Jackson’s parents said one thing: ‘donate blood,’” she said. “Jackson is doing well today because of people who donated their blood. In less than five minutes, you can help save three lives, as others did for Jackson. Please contact Vitalant today to set up your appointment. Visit vitalant.org or call (877) 258-4825 (877-25VITAL).”

“Thank you to everyone who came out to donate, and to the fabulous SAG-AFTRA coaches who donated their time to those who gave blood. It was a huge success and we had fun while doing good,” Rioux added.
