SAG-AFTRA is rallying in support of the United Teachers of Los Angeles strike this week. Members, together with 31,000 Los Angeles Unified School District teachers, will walk the picket lines and join in demonstrations across the city. The strike began Monday.
Nearly 100 members picketed in the rain on Tuesday at SAG-AFTRA’s adopted school, Hollywood High. SAG-AFTRA Secretary-Treasurer and L.A. Local President Jane Austin; SAG-AFTRA Vice President, L.A. Clyde Kusatsu; and National Board member Ellen Crawford led the union’s contingent in support of the UTLA and greeted American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten.
“It’s important for us to support our fellow union members,” Austin said. “It’s all about showing solidarity and supporting better education for our children.”
SAG-AFTRA L.A. Local Board member Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul), an LAUSD parent with two children in the district, also addressed the crowd.
L.A. Local Board member Elizabeth McLaughlin and L. Scott Caldwell (Lost, Southland) were among those who braved the weather to walk the line and carry supportive signs.
