MIAMI — SAG-AFTRA and the Miami Local are pleased to welcome Michael Viera as the local’s executive director.
Viera, who will begin his duties on May 3, comes to SAG-AFTRA from Olympusat, where he served as senior corporate counsel. There, he negotiated licensing agreements and resolved contract disputes, among numerous other duties. He has a Juris Doctorate from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Science in communication from the University of Miami, and is fluent in Spanish.
“He arrives with a wealth of experience, and he is ready to hit the ground running,” said Miami Local President John McKarthy. “As we look forward to putting the pandemic behind us, I am confident his leadership will help us start a new chapter as a local, and I look forward to working with him.”
Viera, who takes over for former Miami Local Executive Director Hertha Suarez, will report to Assistant National Executive Director, Locals, Linda Dowell.
“We are delighted to get someone of Michael’s caliber to lead the Miami Local,” said National Executive Director David White. “I know he will be a valuable addition to the SAG-AFTRA staff leadership team.”
