SAG-AFTRA National Board Ratifies New Telemundo Contract

The SAG-AFTRA National Board voted unanimously to approve a new contract with Telemundo Television Studios, delivering significant gains to Spanish-language performers. The four-year contract is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2024.  

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said, “A fair deal is a fair deal in any language, and Telemundo performers have achieved an outstanding contract that reflects the value they bring. Telemundo is our most recent network to go union, and I applaud them for working with instead of against performers. Whether it’s English or foreign language, it’s a win for both sides when businesses collaborate with workers to improve terms, rather than having to be challenged to do so. One way or another, this is the future of labor. Well done, SAG-AFTRA Negotiating Committee and staff. ¡Felicitaciones!”

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland added, “It’s gratifying that employers are increasingly getting on board with contracts with strong A.I. provisions. This contract not only achieves that but also makes impressive gains in residuals and other compensation, pension and health contributions, and in a whole host of other areas. This agreement exemplifies the benefits of belonging to a union with an engaged membership. My gratitude to the members of the Negotiating Committee for all their hard work under the leadership of chair Carmen Olivares and our staff negotiating team.” 

This agreement continues to build on the relationship established when Telemundo performers first unionized with SAG-AFTRA in 2017, and includes highlights such as:
 

●    Artificial intelligence provisions based on TV Agreement terms. 
●    Annual rate increases of 8% effective Oct. 1, 2024; 3% effective Oct. 1, 2025; 3% effective Oct. 1, 2026; and 3% effective Oct. 1, 2027.
●    Increase Pension & Health contribution rate by 1.5% to 13% over four-year term. 
●    Increase foreign residuals to 1.15% of receipts (currently 0.54%), increase domestic residuals to 1.7% of receipts and eliminate split for subscription streaming and other platforms (currently 1.08%/0.54%), and first-ever residuals for Peacock originals produced by Telemundo for exhibition on Peacock after 90-day streaming window. Crediting against reuse payments for exhibition on Peacock has been eliminated.
●    Increase meal penalties. Increase meal time grace period from 15 minutes to 20 minutes. 
●    Increase overtime pay to double time after 12 hours daily and time-and-one-half after 40 hours per week (currently 1.5x after 12 hours).
●    Require the engagement of “qualified Spanish-speaking intimacy coordinators” for scenes involving intimacy.
●    Coverage expanded to include stunt coordinators.
●    Add Martin Luther King Day and Juneteenth as holidays in the agreement.

Additionally, the Board approved the negotiation package for a successor agreement to the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract and the SAG-AFTRA Audio Commercials Contract, which expire on March 31, 2025. The package was shaped with member input from across the country through the wages and working conditions process, soliciting input on the aspects of the agreements that matter most to members who work these contracts. The details of the proposal package are confidential. 

Negotiations are set to begin Feb. 18, 2025, in New York City with the Joint Policy Committee, which represents advertisers and advertising agencies.

La Junta Nacional de SAG-AFTRA votó por unánime para aprobar un nuevo contrato con Telemundo Television Studios, logrando avances significativos para los artistas de habla hispana. El contrato de cuatro años, que es retroactivo al 1 de octubre de 2024.

La Presidenta de SAG-AFTRA, Fran Drescher, dijo: "Un acuerdo justo es justo en cualquier idioma, y los artistas de Telemundo han logrado un contrato sobresaliente que refleja el valor que aportan. Telemundo es nuestra cadena más reciente en sindicalizarse, y los aplaudo por trabajar con los artistas en lugar de contra ellos. Ya sea en inglés o en idioma extranjero, es una victoria para ambas partes cuando las empresas colaboran con los trabajadores para mejorar las condiciones, en lugar de tener que ser desafiadas a hacerlo. De una manera u otra, este es el futuro del trabajo. Bien hecho, Comité Negociador y personal de SAG-AFTRA. ¡Felicitaciones!"

Este acuerdo continúa construyendo sobre la relación establecida cuando los artistas de Telemundo se sindicalizaron por primera vez con SAG-AFTRA en 2017, e incluye aspectos destacados como:

• Disposiciones sobre inteligencia artificial basadas en los términos del Acuerdo de TV.

• Aumentos anuales de tarifa del 8% efectivo el 1 de octubre de 2024; 3% efectivo el 1 de octubre de 2025; 3% efectivo el 1 de octubre de 2026; y 3% efectivo el 1 de octubre de 2027.

• Aumento en la tasa de contribución a Pensiones y Salud de 1.5% a 13% durante el término de cuatro años.

• Aumento de regalías por ley al 1.15% de los ingresos (actualmente 0.54%), aumento de regalías por contrato al 1.7% de los ingresos y eliminación de la división para streaming por suscripción y otras plataformas (actualmente 1.08%/0.54%), y primeras regalías para originales de Peacock producidos por Telemundo para exhibición en Peacock después de una ventana de streaming de 90 días. Se ha eliminado el crédito contra pagos por reuso para exhibición en Peacock.

• Aumento de penalidades por comidas. Aumento del período de gracia para comidas de 15 minutos a 20 minutos.

• Aumento del pago de horas extras a doble tiempo después de 12 horas diarias y tiempo y medio después de 40 horas por semana (actualmente 1.5x después de 12 horas).

• Requerir la contratación de "coordinadores de intimidad hispanohablantes calificados" para escenas que involucren intimidad.

• Cobertura expandida para incluir coordinadores de escenas de riesgo.

• Agregar el Día de Martin Luther King y Juneteenth como días festivos en el acuerdo.

Adicionalmente, la Junta aprobó el paquete de negociación para un acuerdo sucesor del Contrato de Comerciales SAG-AFTRA y el Contrato de Comerciales de Audio SAG-AFTRA, que vencen el 31 de marzo de 2025. El paquete fue conformado con aportes de los miembros de todo el país a través del proceso de salarios y condiciones laborales, solicitando opiniones sobre los aspectos de los acuerdos que más importan a los miembros que trabajan bajo estos contratos. Los detalles del paquete de propuestas son confidenciales.

Las negociaciones están programadas para comenzar el 18 de febrero de 2025 en Nueva York con el Comité de Política Conjunta, que representa a los anunciantes y agencias de publicidad.
