International actors union leaders discuss the fundamentals of collective bargaining.

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland was among international union leaders attending a conference in Bogota, Colombia.

The Dec. 13 event, Segundo Acto, was co-hosted by Asociación Colombiana de Actores, the Colombian actors union, and co-sponsored by International Lawyers Assisting Workers, a global membership organization for lawyers for union and workers’ rights. Leaders from Asociación Nacional de Actores, the Mexican actors guild, Latin Artis and Actores Sociedad Colombiana de Gestión, and Colombia Vice Minister of Labor Relations Edwin Palma Egea, were also present.

Crabtree-Ireland spoke at several different panels, including Collective Negotiation Experiences of Actors and Actresses in the United States and Mexico, where he discussed how collective bargaining was an important facet of SAG-AFTRA’s most recent negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. At other panels, he spoke at length about artificial intelligence and copyright law.

During the event’s awards ceremony held later that evening, Crabtree-Ireland accepted an accolade on SAG-AFTRA’s behalf from Latin Artis. The award was given in recognition of the union’s 118-day strike and the positive impact of the 2023 TV/Theatrical Agreement for performers’ rights worldwide.
