The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists is now open.
Meryl Streep has been quietly giving [the SAG-AFTRA Foundation] money for at least the last 20 years: every year; year in, year out. When the pandemic hit and we realized what kind of crisis it was going to create as far as our members’ needs were concerned … we went to Meryl and seven other actors and asked them each [to donate] a million dollars. Within 24 hours of the pandemic, Meryl gave us the money and it really set the ball rolling. I could pick up the phone and say, ‘Meryl just gave us a million; we need a million from you as well.’

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Executive Director
In August 2024, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists officially opened its doors at 5757 Wilshire. Named in honor of the Foundation’s most generous donor in its near 40-year history, the stunning 15,000-square-foot facility, located on the SAG-AFTRA Plaza’s penthouse floor, provides SAG-AFTRA members with a screening room, on-camera studio, voiceover lab and green room.
SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland chats with the Foundation’s executive director, Cyd Wilson, about the center’s state-of-the-art amenities. Wilson takes listeners on a behind-the-scenes tour and reveals how the new center supports performers with its free educational programs, career development resources and virtual courses. She also discusses vital initiatives, such as emergency assistance to performers and Storyline Online.
