Thursday, November 8 through Saturday, November 10, SAG-AFTRA Washington–Mid Atlantic Local staff members Lois Seffu and Thomas Young attended the Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Local was a proud business sponsor of this year’s festival and the staff was welcomed by North Carolina union members and attending filmmakers.
Cucalorus is organized annually by Cucalorus Director Dan Brawley and Development Director Jill Teft. This year, they screened over 190 films, documentaries and music videos while hosting various special events. Lois and Thomas attended the North Carolina Film Office Panel where an interesting dialogue was shared about the opportunities and challenges faced by the North Carolina film community. They also enjoyed Dance-A-lorus, a live showcase featuring choreographed interpretations of short films that played simultaneously on a background screen. The local’s sponsorship allowed them to give members tickets to screenings such as the popular “Casting By”, a featured documentary about the history and impact of Hollywood casting directors, largely attended by professionals in the industry.
The SAG-AFTRA staff members were granted access to the Filmmakers Lounge, where they engaged members and filmmakers in conversation about the simplified SAG-AFTRA low budget agreements and the easy online signatory process.
