The SAG-AFTRA San Francisco-Northern California Local was a sponsor of this year’s Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival. The festival, which occurred in the South Bay Area from March 5–7, brought together technology, innovation and the arts for filmmakers and attendees.
The local made the most of its presence by engaging film producers and others who work in the industry during major events and meetings. Local Executive Director Sean Taylor accompanied Local President Kathryn Howell and Local Board members Erika Perez and Robert Curé to the opening night screening of Manto at the California Theatre on March 5.
But the heart of the local’s engagement took place during the March 6 and 7 VIP soirees held at the Forager Tasting Room and Il Fornaio in San Jose, California. Curé and TV & Theatrical Business Representative Frank Simeone attended both events and took time to speak with producers and pre-member performers about SAG-AFTRA contracts, local membership and the benefits of working under union contracts as either a signatory or a member.
The local intends to continue sponsorship of Cinequest and many other film festivals in the region to maximize outreach and work opportunities for members.
