Members of the San Francisco-Northern California Voiceover Committee met at the local’s Voiceover and Vino mixer on March 18. SAG-AFTRA Organizer Linda Dao and Senior Business Representative Katie Sikkema joined members at the local office for the purpose of bolstering organizing efforts within the local video game industry.
Video games are becoming a growing industry that offers new work opportunities for SAG-AFTRA members. Throughout the event, Dao and Sikkema shared details of SAG-AFTRA’s successful organizing initiatives and talked about the union’s ability to capture more work through newly developed contracts. They also reported on the evolution of new agreements that provide more opportunities for members specializing in voiceover work.
Committee chair Lea Gulino discussed ways the local market can benefit from national efforts currently taking place and led a discussion with fellow members on how best to organize, capture and turn more Bay Area voiceover work into union-produced projects.
The union will continue to work to educate professionals in the local video game industry about the benefits of union voiceover work.
