SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of country music legend Loretta Lynn, who died today at the age of 90.
One of her best-known hits, the autobiographical “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” shared its name with her memoir and an Oscar-winning movie based on her life, recounting her childhood growing up in a poor family in rural Kentucky.
From those humble beginnings, she rose to become an international star who was nominated for 18 Grammys and won three. Among her many accolades, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988, she was the first woman named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2013.
Her artistry and influence has left the world a better place. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
