SAG-AFTRA Senior Deputy General Counsel Sarah Fowler was a presenter at the 18th Annual Labor and Employment Law Conference in New York on Nov. 15. The conference was hosted by the American Bar Association
Fowler presented Labor Law & Pop Culture alongside the National Labor Relations Board Solicitor Fred Jacob; Kevin Kinney, attorney for Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.; and Georgetown University Law Center Professor Mark Pearce. This panel gave an in-depth exploration of the labor law issues in popular culture from the early 20th century to the present day. In addition to highlighting key eras of the labor movement, the presentation showcased tie-ins to well-known films and television programming, including animated programming, as well as other media figures such as Rosie the Riveter and Superman. The presentation was one of six concurrent sessions held throughout the conference.
The ABA is a voluntary organization composed of lawyers and rising law students. Its work determines the ethical code of conduct for legal professionals within the United States and standardized learning for law schools. Over 1,100 professionals attended the 2024 conference.
