Democracy doesn't work without us. Please vote. Whether we vote early, vote by mail, or head to the polls on Nov. 3, our government only works when we participate.

SAG-AFTRA has launched VOTE2020, a get-out-the-vote initiative. Its bilingual digital home is at sagaftra.org/vote2020, offering information on how to register, shareable social media graphics, a polling place locator, information on requesting an absentee ballot, a timer counting down to Election Day and more.

As union members, we understand the importance of using our collective voice to better people’s lives — and that’s what we’re doing with VOTE2020. We know apathy kills democracy, so it is imperative that we take this opportunity to remind our members and all Americans that our country needs our vote.

Below, you will see different actions the union has taken to ensure our voices are heard on issues that matter to us. Please watch, read, post and share these materials with ten friends encouraging them to vote and share with ten other friends.

  • SAG-AFTRA livestream webinar focusing on how women fought for and won the right to vote in America. Titled Women's Equality Day: A Celebration of Women's Voices & Women's Votes, it featured members Tichina Arnold, Bella Thorne, Brenda Song, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler and Rock the Vote’s Jasmine Jones, and was moderated by reporter LaMonica Peters.
  • Video message reminding members to register for the fall election released on National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 22.
  • SAG-AFTRA podcast Election 2020: A Conversation on Voting Rights featuring Carolyn DeWitt, president and executive director of Rock the Vote, and Myrna Pérez, director of the Voting Rights and Elections Program at the Brennan Center for Justice.
  • As we count down to Election Day, we will continue offering new programming, including a pre-Election Day livestream geared to new and younger voters. We also invite you to engage on social media by posting an enthusiastic selfie video encouraging people to vote, sharing a picture of yourself at your polling place or mailing your ballot, or by using the social media toolkit to share messages online. Use the hashtag #sagaftravotes, and we have provided downloadable graphics on the VOTE2020 website that you can include as well.

This may well be the most consequential election of the modern era. Now is not the time to sit on the sidelines. We urge you to get informed about the candidates and issues on the ballot and make your voice heard.

Elections matter. If we don’t choose who represents us, someone else will choose for us.

In unity,

Gabrielle Carteris
SAG-AFTRA President

David White
SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director
