SAG-AFTRA committee members have been busy at gatherings around town. Between NextGen Performer mixers and SAG-AFTRA Radio Play productions to CSU Day and L.A. Pride, it has been an eventful summer for the union! Take a look at what we’ve been getting into.

The L.A. Conservatory Committee’s Curriculum Subcommittee members, instructors and volunteers gathered at Maggiano’s at the Grove for the 2nd Annual Conservatory Appreciation Luncheon on July 9.

SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Sound Recordings Dan Navarro joined Bootsy Collins as a presenter at the 70s music legend’s Grand Performances concert in Downtown L.A. on July 7. Dancing in the audience were SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Executive Director Ilyanne Morden Kichaven; Acting National Director, Music Sidney Kibodeaux White; and SAG-AFTRA National Board member Ellen Crawford.

SAG-AFTRA Secretary-Treasurer and L.A. Local President Jane Austin, center, received recognition as an honorary colonel by the American Legion’s Hollywood Post 43 on June 16. Joining her in attendance at the Post 43 Historical Memorial Clubhouse were L.A. Local Military Personnel and Families Support Committee Chair Kevin Dobson; fellow member and Austin’s husband, Kurt Lott; and MPFS Committee members Jack Knight and Greg Duncan.

SAG-AFTRA LGBT Committee members joyfully filled the streets of West Hollywood to lend their support to Los Angeles Pride on June 11.

California State University students flocked from all over the Golden State for an educational day, hosted by SAG-AFTRA and the California State University Entertainment Alliance, to learn about the union and the industry from members. There to work with students were National Board member Jason George, L.A. Local Orientation Committee Chair Lee Garlington, National Board member Abigail Spencer, SAG-AFTRA member Michelle Hurd, and Secretary-Treasurer and Los Angeles Local President Jane Austin. Not pictured are NextGen Performers subcommittee Vice Chair Aubrey Mozino and Los Angeles Executive Director Ilyanne Morden Kichaven. Also in attendance was National Board member Ellen Crawford.

The Los Angeles Local Radio Plays Committee organized and led a workshop for member peers, discussing audition prep, process and etiquette, microphone technique and general business tips at SAG-AFTRA Plaza on May 23.

Approximately 1,200 members filled the lobby level of SAG-AFTRA Plaza for the annual SAG-AFTRA Health Fair, presented by the L.A. Healthcare Safetynet Committee, on May 9. The fair offered several free services, including vocal health screenings, dental screenings, eye exams, BMI testing, massage therapy, HIV/AIDS testing, podiatrist appointments, hearing tests, mammograms and more.

The L.A. Local NextGen Performers Committee was back at Rush Street restaurant and lounge in Culver City, drawing a crowd of up-and-coming performers for one of its popular industry networking mixers on April 24.
