Los Angeles (August 16, 2007)—Screen Actors Guild today announced the promotion of Rebecca Yee to national director of affirmative action/diversity and senior equal employment opportunity counsel effective August 27, 2007. Yee will head the Guild’s Affirmative Action/Diversity Department and will report to SAG General Counsel Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.

In her new position, Yee will advance the Guild’s advocacy of diversity and employment non-discrimination. She will oversee EEO/ADA compliance and the enforcement of all SAG non-discrimination contract provisions while monitoring the hiring practices of SAG employers. In addition, she will administer Guild educational programs, conferences, workshops, casting seminars and other events designed to raise industry and community awareness regarding diversity in television and film programming.

“Rebecca’s background and experience as an attorney advocating for diversity and employment non-discrimination, combined with her understanding of Guild contracts and passion for advancing the cause of working actors, make her an ideal candidate for this important strategic role,” Crabtree-Ireland said. “I look forward to collaborating with her to protect performers and to help producers better reflect the American Scene in their projects.”

Yee joined the SAG staff in 2005 as counsel in the Legal Department, where she worked closely with the Affirmative Action/Diversity Department on discrimination and sexual harassment claims filed by Guild members. Prior to joining the SAG staff, she worked as an attorney with Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, representing disadvantaged individuals in matters of employment law and community economic development. She has also served as an associate with union-side labor law firm Gilbert & Sackman and as an advocate for ethnic minority communities.

Yee serves as a board member of Visual Communications, a nonprofit Asian Pacific American media arts organization in Los Angeles, and is a member of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the National Lawyers Guild. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Juris Doctorate from UCLA School of Law.
